Through the Window with Louise Sturgis

What to expect

This two day course will focus on the view through a window or doorway. We will look at the work of artists for whom this has been a recurring motif, such as Bonnard and Matisse, Winifred Nicholson and Edward Hopper, and by drawing inside and outside we will build our understanding of the light and space, intimacy and expansiveness. After some preparatory exploratory drawings of still life and views through windows and doorways, each student will settle on a composition to resolve on the final day. This could be a drawing or painting. As ever, each course is tailored to the students who attend and centre on 1:1 tuition and group discussion. All levels of experience are welcome.
